Breakout successes like Facebook and Instagram are great to read about, but in many ways, they’re outliers—success stories that are not exactly replicable by anyone who isn’t Mark Zuckerberg or Kevin Systrom. But Chris Guillebeau has been creating breakout successes of his own by following what he calls the 100–10–1 rule of business: start with 100 side projects, stick with 10 of them long enough to make them succeed, and then scale back down to one profitable project that brings in at least $1,000 per month.

100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau

1) Establish a system :
The $100 Startup By Chris Guillebeau is a book about how anyone can start their own business on less than $100, something that people want to hear. After reading the 100 Startup Book, it made me believe that everyone has the potential to start their own business. The first chapter tells how we are all entrepreneurs but don’t know it. It teaches us how we can be entrepreneurs without losing our job or taking on excessive debt.

2) Be comfortable being uncomfortable :
Buy 100 Startup. Author, Chris Guillebeau, has traveled the world and found success by selling $100 worth of stuff every day. In this book he shares his strategies on how to live a life with adventure, freedom, and flexibility through entrepreneurship. To follow his four steps is anyone’s dream come true!
1) Develop an idea. This part seems scary because there are so many unknowns but with patience you can figure it out.
2) Commit. This is one of my favorite parts. He tells you how to commit.
3) Get started. This is where you get your feet wet. Once you make that first step it will be easier to take more steps. My favorite thing about 100startup is that you don’t have to create something from scratch. You can create incremental progressions on existing ideas so there are less obstacles standing in your way.

3) Focus on your strengths :
Author Chris Guillebeau shares the keys to create freedom in his best-selling book 100 Startups. He has extensive experience in both high pressure corporate America and living as an entrepreneur all over the world, where he learned that when it comes to making your dreams happen, there is no such thing as 100% security or stability – there is only 100% commitment. I loved how Mr. Guillebeau weaves personal stories with facts about the startup scene throughout this book.

4) Have something worth paying for :
This book outlines 100 ways that an entrepreneur can create both freedom and adventure in their life. Since it doesn’t matter where you live or what you do for work, there are many options on how to be successful with your new venture. The purpose of this book is not to offer a series of steps for starting your business but rather all the best advice from the author’s experience running his own startups.

5) Know where your traffic is coming from :
The 100 Startup book by Chris Guillebeau is an easy read that covers the key points every startup founder needs to know. If you’re looking for a book on starting your own business, it’s worth reading. One thing I really liked about this book was how it talked about creating both long-term value for the customer and long-term income for the founder.

6) Share what you learn :
In 100 Startup, the author shares insights on how he traveled the world while starting businesses, learned new skills, created systems that provide passive income, started mailing lists and much more. He acknowledges his successes as well as failures which is refreshingly honest. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in building a life where work is not your primary focus.

7) Delegate what you can’t do :
I just finished reading 100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau. I was disappointed that there were not more insights in the book, like what other people did to start their businesses, but it was an inspiring read nonetheless. It really is great knowing that you can create your own destiny and do something as important as starting your own business no matter where you come from or what kind of situation you’re currently in.

8) Learn from criticism :
Chris Guillebeau is no stranger to starting a business. He has founded four successful companies in his lifetime, written six books on the topic, and traveled the world. Now he shares these insights in his newest book: 100 Startup. In the book, Chris describes three secrets for building the ideal startup experience. The first secret is embracing risk. What’s life without risks? The second secret is believing in your ideas.
